Unit 6: Business Decision Making - Sources for the collection of data

Internet research

Introduction

The internet can be a wonderful resource for data research and data collection. However unlike face to face data collection the anomynous nature of the internet (and its reliance on basically a textual interface) can mean that any research needs to consider the possibility that responses may not be entirely truthful.

The UK Government is now publishing a lot more data on the internet, making it much easier to not only retrieve data but also enter it into applications to undertake statistical analysis.

You can also subscribe to various data-sets which again provide a wealth of data from which to base your research.

Social Networking

There are various social networking sites on the web, you may even be a member of one or two. From MySpace, Bebo to Facebook these sites allow you to network across the internet with your friends and like-minded people.

This means that you can have a ready group to answer questions about your product.
